10 Reasons Why People Choose Linux rather than Windows

After we know a little about what Linux is, in this article the admin will explain some reasons why people prefer Linux compared to Windows as their computer operating system.

As we know, Windows is the most popular and most used operating system on desktop computers today, followed by Mac OS X and Linux.

One of the advantages of the OS with this window logo is that it is easy to operate, the availability of complete software, it doesn't even take long for beginners to learn it. That's why Windows is far superior in terms of user-experience.

So why do people prefer Linux from Windows? whereas in terms of its use, Linux is quite difficult for some people. But all of that is not without reason and everyone may have different reasons. There are at least 10 most plausible reasons why Linux is better than Windows.

1. Linux is Free
Yup, this is one of the most common reasons why many choose Linux rather than Windows. Who doesn't like what is free? Guess what the current version of the Windows license is. To be able to use Windows 10 Home edition we are required to pay around $ 181.46, while for the Professional edition around $ 265.22. A large enough amount for an operating system.

While Linux itself is an operating system that is 100% free, we are not charged a single fee to be able to use it. The fees that need to be issued are only internet quota to download the installer file.

2. Linux is Open Source
The Linux operating system is included in Free & Open Source Software, which means that the Linux source code can be seen by anyone. This is because Linux is distributed under the GNU General Public License (GPL) and several other licenses. This license expressly states that anyone is free to use, study, modify, even redistribute without any restrictions.

Therefore many individuals, governments, communities, or certain groups are interested in developing and redistributing as they wish. If you want, you can also create your own version of Linux distributions.

3. Forget Viruses
One of the issues most feared by Windows users is viruses, malware, adware, and the like. As a result, inevitably we have to spend large enough money to buy anti-virus software for our computers to be safer. That is, if the anti-virus is able to recognize all types of viruses every day the number is increasing.

If on Linux you don't need to think about it, just install Linux on your computer and sleep well. This does not mean that there are no viruses in Linux, but not as many as in Windows. Although there are, but the virus on Linux doesn't seem to move. This is because Linux has a very high security system and smart authorization management.

But keep in mind that there is no guarantee that Linux is 100% free of viruses. But in fact from the past until now there have been no cases of Linux being attacked by a virus. If there is, that is also Linux which has never been updated by the owner. Most viruses created by hackers aim to attack Windows.

4. Linux is more stable
What is meant by stable here is that the computer can last for years without needing to be rebooted or turned off. Therefore, Linux is widely used as a web server in addition to security reasons. One way to find out whether a system is stable or not, is seen from its ability to run for a long time, and it's all in Linux

If on Windows, we often experience events such as crashes, blue screens, or error messages that require the computer to be rebooted for no apparent reason.

5. Fast and Light
When compared to Windows, the boot speed (boot) on Linux tends to be faster. Linux takes less than 1 minute when turned on until it's ready to use. Even the speed has never changed even though it has been used for years.

While Windows requires a longer time to turn on. What's more if we use it for more than a year, the longer it slows down and feels heavy. This is because the management of the file system on Linux is different from Windows.

6. Extensive Community Support
In Linux there are two types of community support, namely User Community Support and Professional Support. User community support is support from Linux users who understand Linux or have expertise in writing Linux program code.

They are happy to provide solutions to us through forums if there is a problem with the Linux operating system. Even now in Indonesia there are many Linux communities or discussion forums that discuss Linux.

While Professional Support is support provided directly by the Linux distribution distro concerned. For example the Ubuntu distro developed by Canonical Ltd. They will provide full support for users of Ubuntu Linux.

7. There are many free applications
Did you know, besides the operating system that is free, Linux also provides thousands of free applications that can be obtained for free and which are definitely halal. Most applications are open source & free software.

Whereas in Windows many paid applications that we actually need for daily work, for example Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, etc. And the saddest is the price that doesn't make sense. So much that justifies any means to get it, for example pirated software or crack.

It is tantamount to stealing or violating the copyrights of others, and of course in the hereafter we will bear the sin. In addition, software crack also has the potential to contain dangerous viruses or malware.

8. Save a Lot of Money
Try to imagine, what is the total cost that we have to spend to buy the Windows, Adobe Photoshop, and Microsoft Office operating systems. This amount is very large and enough to buy a laptop. Not to mention the addition of other applications that we really need.

Whereas if we use Linux, we will not spend even a penny. Most of the applications are free, like LibreOffice as an alternative to Microsoft Office, GIMP as an alternative to Photoshop, etc. You could say the cost that we will spend while using Linux is only an internet connection.

9. Easy to Update Software and Operating Systems
Windows handles operating system updates and software updates separately. When we receive a pop-up to update, each application will be updated one by one. Of course this is very inefficient.

Unlike Linux, everything is done through the repository and uses Update Manager to make it easier for us to do all the update processes at once. Be it an operating system update, or update all software installed on the computer.

10. Display that is beautiful & easy to customize
If you are bored with just that Windows desktop display, then migrating to Linux is the right choice. In Windows there is not much we can do but change the theme or wallpaper.

While Linux itself has a more attractive appearance than Windows. If you are bored with the default look, we are free to modify or do as much customization as we want.

Now there are some of the most common reasons why people prefer Linux from Windows. How about you, choose Windows or Linux? please write your opinion in the comments column provided below
